Is there wifi internet during the colca trek?
Within the trek in the places where you sleep there is internet coverage
You can also find internet signal in some parts of the trek.
The local operators are Claro and Movistar.
Can I buy water during the Colca trek?
In all towns there is drinking water, it is drinkable for us Peruvians, keeping in mind that this water could not be drinkable for you.
It is recommended to buy bottled water, during the treks you can buy water every 4-5 hours on the explained routes.
Can I leave Colca Canyon in 4×4 transportation if I am tired?
If you are inside the canyon, and you get tired and no longer want to walk or maybe you get sick, we can organize return transportation for you.
Where can I buy the Entrance fee Tourist ticket for the Colca Canyon?
In the main square of Arequipa, in front of the cathedral, is the Autocolca office where you can buy tourist tickets.
If you do not have time to buy them in Arequipa, when you travel to Cabanaconde or start the treks there are controllers with green vests, they approach you to sell you the tourist tickets.
Important: The tourist ticket must be complete and verify the date, it must have the date of the day you enter.
Put your first and last name on the tourist ticket, so no one will be able to use the same ticket again and thus avoid deceiving other customers.
Keep the tourist ticket until the end of the trip.
Take a photo of the tourist ticket in case of loss (With your name).
Where can I eat during the Colca Trek?
In the towns within the route there are local restaurants, just ask the local people.
Only carry snacks and chocolate bars that you can eat between meals or in case of emergencies.
Are walking poles needed for the Colca Trek?
It is recommended to walk with trekking poles.
We recommend using bamboo trekking poles, these are more ecological, they erode the path less and are free, we lend them at our hotel.
Is a passport needed during the Colca Trek?
Always upload a photo of your passport on your cell phone, some hotels request it.
And in others accommodations also ask for the original and for an administrative matter they will ask you the date of entry to Peru.
Hotel tax
The passport and the date of entry to Peru are requested by the hotels in order to exempt the VAT, which corresponds to 18%.
The hotel service is considered an export service and applies only to foreign tourists; they must stay less than 59 days in Peru.
If you do not present your passport or if at the time you present it, you have been in Peru for more than 59 days, you need to pay + 18%.
Where can I store my luggage during the colca trek?
We have free luggage storage for people who sleep in our hotel.
You can leave it before sleeping at our hotel or perhaps first do the colca trek and then spend the night at our hotel.
Obviously before leaving your luggage, you have to pay for the hotel night in advance.
And obviously if you spend the night at our hotel, you can first leave your luggage and pick it up after the trek.
For people who do not sleep in our hotel, you can also leave your luggage, but obviously you have to pay for this service.
What is the difficulty of the trek in the Colca Canyon?
The trek in the Colca Canyon is not a technical trek, but it is a very physical trek.
It is recommended to be in very good physical shape.

On the first floor of our hotel, we have a restaurant and we provide breakfast service.
After the trek you can have breakfast at our hotel. We have fresh juices, cheese, jam, butter, hot drink, bread, scrambled eggs.
You can take it in our garden – terrace with an excellent view of the Andes mountain range.
Where can I have good coffee in the Colca Canyon?
In the hotel Casa Santiago we also have an Italian coffee machine, it is not included in the breakfast, but you can buy espresso, Cappuccino, Americano and others.

A good part of the Colca Canyon is surrounded by road. We rent 4×4 trucks to explore the Colca Canyon and also for people who want to return from the canyon due to fatigue.

Can I visit the Colca Canyon with mules and horses?
Normally mules are used to transport clients’ things during the trek. They are also used to return from the canyon, horseback riding.
The horses are used for tours in Cabanaconde through the countryside and to go or return to the Cruz del Condor.

There are no ATMs in Cabanaconde, please bring enough cash
Can you pay with a credit card in Cabanaconde or during the trek in the Colca Canyon?
In some places they accept credit card but you have to pay + 5%
What is the weather like in Colca Canyon?
The dry season is from May to November (very hot during the daylight, the temperature can go from 25 °C/ 77 °F to 35 °C/ 95 °F but during the evening it can drop from 5 °C/ 41 °F to 10 °C/ 50 °F)
The rainy season is from December to March (the rain usually starts in the afternoon and the mornings can be very foggy so bring appropriate gear for this type of weather).
What are the roads like in the Colca Canyon?
Whether going to or returning from the Colca Canyon there is a difference of 1100 meters. The roads are wide between 2 to 3 meters.
The path is covered with small rocks that increase the degree of difficulty.
These roads are used by local people and tourists.
Local people rent mules to go up to Cabanaconde, especially in the oasis of San Galle.
There is no shade on the road and the paths are not marked.
DON’T TAKE DANGEROUS SHORTCUTS.
How hard or easy is it to find accomodations in the Canyon?
Normally, there’s no problem when it comes to accomodations but we can always help you to arrange your accomodations, just ask for it in the front desk.
What are the mule rides in colca canyon?
They’re basically a service that you could take from Sangalle to Cabanaconde (this is a very steep section where you go uphill only) and it takes 1.5 hr and you’d be accompanied by a drover and usually you arrange the price before.
How can I get water inside de Canyon?
There are places where you can buy bottles of water inside the Canyon but this can be fairly more expensive, normally those products are brought from the town only by mules because of the difficult access. You’d find some natural water sources as well but you must filter it and/or use purifying tables.
